2. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Neumeister, Associated Press:
“After just a couple of hours of deliberations in Manhattan federal court today, a jury returned a verdict in favor of British singer Ed Sheeran, finding that his song ‘Thinking out Loud’ does not violate the copyrights of Marvin Gaye's popular tune ‘Let's Get It On.' That's a 1973 soul classic that Marvin Gaye co-wrote along with Ed Townsend.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Neumeister, Associated Press:
“Ed Sheeran took the witness stand and he sang for a while, mixing his tune ‘Thinking Out Loud’ with other songs, showing how he can go back and forth with songs that have similar chords, but he says it does not mean he stole from those songs or violated their copyrights.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Larry Neumeister, Associated Press:
“He came outside the courthouse after the verdict and he said, ‘If the jury had decided this matter the other way, we might as well say goodbye to the creative freedom of songwriters.’ He had almost seemingly jokingly testified at one point that if he lost this trial, he might not sing again. So, when he came outside, he said, ‘I am obviously very happy with the outcome of the case, and it looks like I'm not going to have to retire from my day job after all.’ So, he was in good spirits.”

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Sophia Neis, Juror:
“We thought really long and hard about the questions that were presented to us. And it was a really great group of people who we talked, you know, we worked through everything as we were instructed to by the judge and by the jury instructions that we were given. And we ultimately came to what we thought was the right interpretation of the law that we were given.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Sophia Neis, Juror:
“I mean, key factors were, obviously, the song as we're allowed to hear it, and then the deposit copy, which was in question and trying to use their testimonies and the expert witnesses’ expertise on the subject to try and best understand the similarities or lack thereof or differences in the two works and try and make our best and most fair judgment with what we were given.”
