Whoever thinks that Dvorak had no flair for the piano is wrong, as I hope this complete set of the lovely Op.54 Waltzes will prove. He may not be Chopin or Brahms, and the writing is sometimes impractical and more difficult than it ought to be, as often happens with composers who were not good pianists. They certainly do not lie as comfortably under the fingers as those by Chopin. But I think these are great pieces, among the best he wrote for piano solo. These waltzes were written in 1879-80. I recorded them on 12 and 18 February 2017.
