Seventeen years after the last confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah, Lebanon might be on the brink of a new war. Since the October 7 attacks by Hamas on southern Israel, tensions have been simmering on the Israel-Lebanon border, and against this backdrop, the risks of an escalation cannot be underestimated. What are Israel’s and Hezbollah’s calculations at this stage? What consequences would the expansion of the conflict have for Lebanon and the wider region?
