Stories like José’s happen every day. They're why The Chaplaincy Institute was born.
Even before COVID, our interfaith chaplains were providing needed spiritual care around the US and the globe. After we emerged from the pandemic, we knew that some of its most devastating physical and emotional effects would persist and even increase. The suicide rate has risen 33%, and an estimated 17.3 million adults in the United States had at least one major depressive episode. The economic, physical, and mental challenges faced by so many are only growing… There has never been a greater need for trained chaplains and spiritual directors that can help heal the hurt.
Along with Jose’s family, hundreds of thousands of families have lost loved ones in the last 12 months: mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, brothers, sisters, and children who were deeply loved, and whose passing has left hearts heavy with hurt. They are desperately in need of love and caring, and healing.

The Chaplaincy Institute (ChI) trains caregivers to skillfully provide the love, the caring, that can make healing possible — healing that is most needed today and into the future. ChI graduates do things. They are trained and prepared to be healers, helping to transform the world from a place of hurt and suffering to a place of blessing where love abounds…
