The Gertrude Saddle Track, New Zealand 🇳🇿
I’m sounding like a broken record here, but the Gertrude saddle track may have been the best hike we did in New Zealand (ok, maybe top 2). It’s however the most under the radar hike in New Zealand and the best bang for your buck (short-ish hike, free, and the most amazing views along the entire track)! The track only took us almost 6 hours round trip 🏔
We were initially hesitant because everything online says this hike should only be attempted by expert hikers. That may be true in wet or very snowy conditions, but we completed the trek no problem on the nice sunny afternoon ☀️
The track is almost entirely uphill and mostly on rocky surfaces. It was important to follow the marked trail and to be cautious but the whole trail was so fun. Our jaws dropped at the top when we saw the mountain range and the views of Milford Sound. It was a perfect spot for a rest and some lunch 🏔
