In this video, Keith Barker covers the benefits of using a Route Reflector inside a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) environment. This concept plays an important role in both IPv4 and IPv6. In this video, Keith will show you how to identify the benefits of using a route reflector inside BGP, then configure and verify it.
Keith digs into the benefits of using a Border Gateway Patrol (BGP) Route Reflector. In the video, he uses an example of an IPv6 topology, but it’s important to note that the concept of a route reflector applies to IPv4 as well.
There are both internal and external BGP neighborships, and it’s essential to understand a cornerstone rule. That rule says if a router learned about a route from an internal BGP (iBGP) neighbor, it assumes that everybody else in the autonomous system already knows about this route prefix, so it doesn’t bother advertising that concept. That’s a problem, and in this video, Keith shows you how to overcome this challenge.
