The Lisbon Council convened the Virtual Town Hall Meeting on Citizen Data in Focus: Machine Learning and Data Analytics for Citizen Support and Government Savings. Bringing together data experts, top civil servants, European policymakers and researchers, the interactive meeting served as a warm-up session for the SEMIC 2020 conference, the European Commission's annual summit on interoperability. Annika M. Jacobsen, head of the data mining unit at ATP Udbetaling Danmark, the welfare benefits administrator in Denmark, delivered a ground-breaking presentation on how Denmark is using machine learning and data analytics to tackle welfare fraud. Seth van Hooland, programme manager for interoperability at DG informatics, joined the discussion. Charlotte van Ooijen, research fellow for digital government at the Lisbon Council, chaired the session.
