Photographed above is a glimpse into what the iconic sun-porches would have looked like during its operation in the tuberculosis era to the building. This particular photo seems to have been taken during a visitation day.
The patients who called this sanatorium their home while they tried to fight off the disease would spend most of their days outside in this area. From March until November, the patients would rest to the best of their abilities, receive bedside treatments, and connect with those around them as they sunbathed in the sunshine and breathed in the fresh air; one of the main treatments of the time before a cure had been found.
Today, these sun-porches sit void of the hospital beds and patients that once filled the four floors that these span, but not void of the memories and perhaps the spirits that many believe are still here and have even experienced.
