While in the Benin Republic, I journeyed through the slove route in Ouidah to the point of no return where the slaves in the 16th-18th centuries last saw Africa and shipped to Europe and America. All of the slaves were from West Africa, a chunk from Nigeria and most of the Yoruba tribe. The point of no return is a big monument constructed by the government of the Republic of Benin in conjunction with UNESCO. The monument gives a vivid depiction of how the slave trade was practiced and the conditions of the slaves through their journey away from their homeland.
The historic town of Ouidah is a great place to visit if you are trying to know your black history, ouidah is also the capital of voodoo, you can visit the snake temple and also the salt lake where the production of salt takes place.
