Nearly half a billion monarch butterflies have gathered at the El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Preserve in Central Mexico to escape cold weather. In this hidden grove, the butterflies cascade from the trees to drink at mountain streams. Using high-speed camera techniques, "The Gathering Swarms" on Nature on PBS captures these world-wide displays and explains why they occur. The full episode is available on www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/
