We’re beginning a series of ‘snapshots’ from the latest findings of the Growing Up in Australia: The Longitudinal Study of Australian Children, with ‘Teenagers’ experience of discrimination’. The study has followed two cohorts of children since 2004.
One in three Australian teenagers experience discrimination. Many teens experience discrimination because of race, disability, religion and sexual identity, but body discrimination is the most common overall. As our kids grow up and navigate social and peer pressures, what effect is it having on their health and wellbeing?
