(24 May 2012) RIO FASHION WEEK CONTINUES WITH SALINAS BEACHWEAR COLLECTION
Brazilian fashion designers continued to show off the best of their beachwear Wednesday (23 MAY 2012), during the second day of Fashion Rio.
Bathing suit brand Salinas presented a colorful and coquettish collection adorned with frills and bows.
The brand, which was created in Rio de Janeiro 30 years ago, mixed patterns and shapes with chunky accessories.
Fashion Rio organizer Paulo Borges told Associated Press that Fashion Rio is trying to sell the identity of the laid back "Carioca" (as Rio's residents are called) in its summer collections.
"We want to emphasize beachwear and we want all the major tendencies in Brazilian beachwear to be launched during Fashion Rio. We are hoping that will draw global attention and make us to great center for beachwear," Borges said.
Another Rio-based brand, Totem, took fashionistas in Rio's Jockey Club to a natural paradise, where pink, tomato and aquamarine splashed against solid white clothes.
Designer Yame Reis said many other beach locations, like Hawaii and Bali, inspired the color-infused collection.
"We look at the women in these places and think about what they need, about their lifestyle, about what she is doing and what she likes to do. So our clothes are full of color, we use the colors of the sun and of light as our inspiration," Reis said.
The Spring/Summer edition of Fashion Rio runs until Saturday, May 26.
