The McCloud River flows from glacial and snow melt from the peaks of Mt. Shasta in northern California and stretches 77 miles, pooling in both the McCloud Reservoir and Shasta Lake. The series of waterfalls known as Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls set the scene as the river tumbles over hardened basaltic lava flows and carves its' way through the vast forested landscape of the surrounding Shasta-Trinity Forest. The river offers stunning scenery, water recreation, camping, hiking, and fishing.
