STORYLINE
Cuba's foreign minister on Tuesday said Fidel Castro continued to recover his health and was still actively involved in the running of the nation.
Felipe Perez Roque made the comments in Tehran, where he attends the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.
On Tuesday, he held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of the summit, talks which were also attended by their counterparts from Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia.
Speaking to AP Television afterwards, Perez Roque said Cuba's 81-year-old leader was continuing on the road to recovery.
"Castro is recovering his health. He is very disciplined at this moment. He is receiving medical care but he is better than a year ago really," he said.
The true state of Castro's health and his future role in government, if any, remain mysteries more than a year after he announced he had undergone intestinal surgery and was provisionally ceding power to his younger brother, Raul.
But the foreign minister told AP Television Castro was still very much involved in the running of the country.
"He is informed by us about strategic issues from our foreign and internal situation and he is in very close contact with the government and with the leadership of the party, but his main goal at this moment is the recovery of his health," he said.
Tehran is hosting a two-day NAM meeting which has focused on human rights and cultural diversity.
Perez Roque, whose country holds the NAM rotating presidency, addressed the opening ceremony of the meeting on Monday.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is made up of 118 developing countries and aims to represent the political, economic and cultural interests of the developing world.
More than 100 delegations from the NAM's member countries were in Tehran for the meeting.
