Helicopters and planes are battling a wildfire in western Türkiye that has been raging for nearly two days. Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli reported that the blaze, which began as a picnic fire started by three individuals, has approached residential areas, damaging homes and businesses and forcing evacuations.
Yumakli also noted that authorities are currently managing five wildfires across the country. High temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds—reaching up to 60 kilometers per hour in Izmir—pose a significant wildfire risk this weekend, according to the General Directorate of Forestry.
Türkiye's coastal regions have faced increasing wildfire incidents in recent years, attributed to hotter and drier summers linked to climate change.
