Howdy Y'all!
Everyone has seen the cliché submarine scenes, where a sweaty crew is anxiously awaiting something to happen.
Then a dramatic thud is heard, that is the topic of todays video. Depth Charges!
Depth Charges are essentially a very primitive way to combat the undersea threats. They used hydrostatic fuses, or magnetic ones. Deployed by rack/rails behind a vessel, or fired from a Y or K Gun (Depth Charge Projector).
The U.S. started the war with improved first world war depth charges. As the war progressed, we would see a wide array of new depth charge technology. Some specialized for different mission sets. However, most did not make it to a widespread production level as the Mark 6,7, & 9 charges did.
