During a humanitarian aid conference in Brussels on Monday, European Union (EU) Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell warned that Israel is “provoking famine” in Gaza as the Israel-Hamas conflict rages on.
“This famine is not a natural disaster, it's not a flood, it's not an earthquake, it's entirely man-made,” Borrell said.
Similarly, a UN-backed report suggests famine is imminent, particularly in north Gaza.
Though he echoed that the situation is dire, World Food Programme Chief Economist Arif Husain said that this can be averted if aid is supplied to more than 300,000 starving Palestinians in northern Gaza “as soon as possible.”
If action is not taken immediately, Husain said famine could strike “any time from now [March 18] until the end of May."
