Sofonisba Anguissola's MICRO BIOGRAPHY showcasing her life and work
Sofonisba Anguissola was an exquisite Renaissance painter and among the first known female artists to establish an international reputation. She received training from some known masters of her native city, Cremona.
Anguissola’s paintings showed a stellar sense of innovation. She imbued her portraits with narrative and intellectual nuances. It was that that captured the attention of Michelangelo Buonarroti. They kept in touch via mail. In those letters, she received advice and critiques for her work, which helped her develop her skills further.
Numerous artists sought her advice. In her later years, she became a great patron of the arts, funding other young artists and helping them develop their careers.
At 92, Anthony van Dyck visited her. He said that the conversation taught him more about painting than anything else in his life.
This video is part of Exaggerations of History in which Chilean artist Apia created 101 miniature portraits of women artists from the 12th to the 20th centuries. More about the project here: [ Ссылка ]
