Laurie Penny begins by addressing some myths surrounding feminism. First of all the hatred of men by feminists; She goes on to say that men should not be seen as patriotic or misogynistic with a simplified view of the female gender. If we say that we are feminists then the point of feminism is being missed, as it's not about conforming to an identity.
She strongly disagrees with the notion that the most important thing a woman can do is hold her baby in her arms, as in her opinion that is such a disgusting reactionary sentiment.
She highlights that there is a global backlash to women's sexual rights and economics rights and it's connected to austerity. She expresses her anger very clearly towards Edwina Currie's speech saying that she treats women's views as a joke when it's an entirely serious subject.
Laurie concludes by going against the side she is on and suggesting that everyone vote for the motion to become feminists.
