Mary Ann Guadagno presents original research which attempted to identify best practices for the successful peer review of grant applications and areas for improvement at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Scientific Review (CSR). Two questions guided this evaluation study: (1) to what extent are current CSR practices for peer review optimal for achieving its mission? and (2) what are the areas of success and improvement in the quality of peer review?
