"Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that" (MLK). While it feels justified to be angry with all men in South Africa right now, I believe that there are enough good men and women to rebuild our country - but we have to be willing to be unified in our approach to the scourge of violence plaguing our country.
As an academic, I had great difficulty with this video, but I stand in my truth, we need to acknowledge and celebrate good examples of the kind of men and women we want in our country and we need to punish bad behaviour. Right now we are punishing all men in the hopes that the rapists and serial killers stop. They haven't, but we have the attention of those men that stand against those criminals - what do we plan to do with it?
Every great visionary approached the problems of their time with love and understanding and we, well we seem to be isolating many men that want to be part of the solution.
I don't care what your 'race', religion, class, gender etc is - if you want to make this world a better place, then let's unite and change this status quo. And if you want to get started on celebrating and encouraging amazing the men and women in our country, you are welcomed to use the #showyourheart - it doesn't depend on your gender, race, language - just depends on your heart!
In all candor, if we don't have hope, we have nothing to leave to our children. And I refuse to do that.
