【Pls look at the top comment first】Among a great deal of German hard/melodic rock bands, Aidean is a real underrated gem. For loyal fans who are fond of excavating hidden releases, this album seems to be known because of this iconic cover featuring a fashionable blonde ripping a poster. Such nostalgic pictoria image is like a 1980s film poster to attract people's attention. Aidean was rooted from Mannheim, a precious band of the past 1980s. "Promises" is the one-off album of Aidean, released in 1988 by Breakout Classics. It's hard to find the information of the label in details as this is a domestic label in Germany, less-known by external people. Actually, Aidean once was only spread in Europe, so for more people from other continents, they are rarely mentioned in their active years in the late 1980s.
Aidean once came out in the magazine of Break Out of Rock' n Roll, winning warm responses. They were one of the most potential and talented bands in Germany in the typical European melodic hard rock style with plenty of hooks by keyboards in the album. All the musical works from "Promises" were the original creations, especially the guitarist Michael Gudjan was dedicated to most of the songs.
As a band with six-piece line-up including duo guitars and keyboards, Aidean's music is layered and fully-fledged, which reminds listeners of 1980s Skagarack in music arrangements and the voice of frontman Steve Lydakis truly reminds me of those bands featuring glam metal elements, but Aidean features more catchy tunes in the genre of melodic hard rock and aor.
The album was originally released on the form of vinyl. In 1989, they had a formal CD release, but in the same year, that was the last time for people to hear Aidean as the band dissolved since then. The major reason for Aidean's breaking-up is unknown for the public, maybe music world changed since the early 1990s, which caused numerous hard rock and melodic rock bands' coming to the end. Preciously, the one-off "Promises" was reissued in 2000 by Break Out Classics. Its reissued version includes three bonus tracks, which were originally recorded in 1987.
The opening theme "Promises" pushes the album to the climax right away by glorious and brilliant keys with high-spirited tunes, then "Tokyo" and "Rocks You Up" form the following high peak that can shake your souls as the strong and solid riffs stand out to present their hard rocking spirits. Personally, the song "Do You Call Again" as we are hearing is my favourite, from which I can feel a sense of nostalgia that 1980s golden era never fades away around ears. "Livin Lovin Losin" is another song as my favourite as "Do You Call Again", typical melodic hard rock or it can be classified as classic 1980s hair metal. "Diana" was created in the style of 1980s Bad Habit except for the voice feature. "Stranger" reminds me of Blue Tear's emotional but solid mid-tempo tunes. Big keys truly make their music stand out. For whoever is keen on Tobruk, Aviator, Skagarack, Bad Habit and the like, whose music is ruled by salient keyboard sounds, don't miss Aidean and the "Promises".
