This video shows some parts of my diploma concert - I ended my studies with honors at the Vienna Music Institute with this final exam.
The first song is called 'Not Ethiopia', originally performed by the Brecker Brothers. This version is inspired by the interpretation of Allan Holdsworth & Frank Gambale on 'Truth In Shredding' by the Mark Varney Project.
It features a completely improvised solo between the main themes.
The second solo part consists of different odd-meter riffs - it starts in 4/4, goes into 2/4, 5/4, 4/4 and then 7/8. After each repetition, the 5/4 riff is repeated one more time, resulting in a solo form like this:
4/4 - 2/4 - 5/4 - 4/4 - 7/8
4/4 - 2/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 4/4 - 7/8
4/4 - 2/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 4/4 - 7/8
4/4 - 2/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 5/4 - 4/4 - 7/8....
