Some very clever people near Edinburgh have managed to stop pigs succumbing to a respiratory illness.
Writing in the Daily Telegraph today, the science author Matt Ridley draws our attention to the Roslin Institute in Scotland, which has succeeded in removing a tiny segment of DNA from the genome of pigs. The effect is to make the porkers completely resistant to Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome.
