We had several VERY large trees that were hanging over our electric line. These trees posed a HUGE threat to our home's power, and if one of them were to fall it could take out our electricity and could fall onto our neighbors land. Most of the trees were the dreaded albizia trees, a plant species that was introduced to the islands and has been identified as "one of the most problematic invasive species affecting Big Island communities today." Some have even called it the fasted growing tree in the WORLD! Weak and brittle wood can be of great concern. Several years back there was a tropical storm that hit the island and the devastation caused by these trees falling was clear. You could drive down many roads in Puna and see that hundreds of these large trees had fallen over or had large branches that broke off. I believe some people were without electricity and power for weeks.
We have had some of these trees cut already, but had to hire a professional company for these ones hanging over the power line. Come on a journey with me to see how it went!
