Come behind the scenes with me to see how I styled, photographed and edited these fine art portrait photoshoots of a young girl dressed in elegant steampunk and two adorable doberman dogs. I used my Canon EOS R camera, Canon EF 24-70 1.8 lens and 3 Canon 600 EX Speedlites in my home portrait studio in Gilbert, Arizona.

I entered one of these portraits in The Portrait Masters international competition and accreditation program and earned a Silver Award. Out of over 11,000 entries, roughly 400 portraits earned silver. I’m honored to be featured among such incredible photographers.

I like to put an elegant spin on the steam punk style that is very fun, quirky and inspired by 19th century Victorian fashion. I knew I wanted a brown and black color scheme for this photoshoot to compliment the doberman dogs and my young model Amelia. So, I went to Goodwill, my local thrift store and found a black lace skirt, black satin shrug, and a women’s silky brown blouse. I knew the blouse would be too large for my model but I loved the collar and ruffle details. So I deconstructed the blouse and turned it into a sleeveless blouse, ruffled belt and ruffled wrist cuffs that would easily fit my petite model.
