In this video, I'll show you how I replaced my broken clockspring on my Nissan Xterra.

In Part 1 of this series, I installed an aftermarket steering wheel on my Xterra and broke the clockspring in the process. Here's a tip I learned a few years after making this video: keep the steering wheel bolt on a few turns so that the wheel doesn't come flying off when you get it loosened from the column. The clockspring is a special electrical connector that allows the steering wheel and the switches attached to it to communicate with the rest of the vehicle. The horn, airbag, cruise control, light controls, radio controls (if equipped), and steering wheel angle sensor all connect using the clock spring.

In my haste, I damaged mine beyond repair when installing the NRG short hub adapter to my Nissan Xterra. The truck was still driveable without the clockspring, but I was missing things like my horn and a few other important functions. Whenever I used the turn signal, I had. to manually turn it off after completing a turn because the wheel position sensor wasn't working.

This video is a step by step on how to replace the clockspring and restore the vital connection between the steering wheel and the rest of the vehicle. This how-to will work for the second generation Nissan Frontier as well.
