GETPIVOTDATA is the ‘Marmite’ of Excel functions: some people love it, some people hate it. Most people don’t understand how it works and why it is so useful.
GETPIVOTDATA is a setting that is turned on by default. When we try to link to a cell in a Pivot Table, the GETPIVOTDATA formula is automatically used.
GETPIVOTDATA is similar to linking to a cell except that the data we are linking to is in a Pivot Table and that Pivot Table has the potential to change layout. GETPIVOTDATA allows us to create a robust formula, that works even when Pivot Table fields are moved around.
In this video, we will take a detailed look at GETPIVOTDATA, run through an example of its use and discuss its advantages and disadvantages.
