When painting sheers, I always begin by painting the body first. I still give it warmth and shadows because it will feel more real when it shows through the following layers.
When you begin painting the fabric itself, begin by laying down your most opaque color where there are folds that add density because the fabric is layering over itself. Once I have those blocked in I use water or glazing medium mixed with the color to create a transparent wash over the area.
When painting fabric, keep your brush moving in the direction of the folds. It will help with blending.
