In this episode of FlyingFacts we are going to take a look at why exactly so many aircraft used in "bush flying" (that is, backcountry aviation utilizing non-paved off airport surfaces as runways) are taildraggers - that is aircraft equipped with a tailwheel instead of a nosewheel. This selection of landing gear is not arbitrary - it is in fact made for several reasons that make tailwheel configurations much more beneficial for flying in rough, soft and debris-littered terrain.
