Burmilla, a man made breed that started in the UK by a Burmese and Persian breeder, are, along with Burmese (a relative of the Burmilla breed), my favorite!
Burmilla cat, "Lahti," is a wonderful kitty from a litter of my two black shaded silver Burmillas, a Long haired male, and a short haired female who came to me from Finland. This girl was just too sweet and special to let go. I do my best not to go over the cat number threshold, but sometimes there are exceptions. Lahti will be a year old next month. As you may notice, most Burmillas do not get all that big. Though, most are bigger than their ancestors, The Burmese. If you saw the picture of Burmilla Kittens on my Twitter page, @EllenAMuth, they are a litter of the same breed as Lahti that are 8 weeks old. Burmillas are not as well known here in the USA, as they are in the UK, Australia and Europe but I accidentally ended up with a Long haired "Tiffanie" kitten back in 2005 which was the most amazing kitten I've ever had in my life. Back then a "Tiffanie cat" was the name for the Long haired Burmilla in the Canadian registration so when I spent years trying to get another and found they were virtually non-existent, aside from a couple of breeders in the UK and Australia, I came to realize that today, by registration standards, Long and short haired Burmillas are just THAT. The Burmilla is man-made breed, which means that a breeder mates two recognized and registered but different breeds and uses a Kitten from each new litter of each new generation (without inbreeding!!) And continues this cycle for 18 generations minimum. The Burmilla, as mentioned above, started with a lilac European Burmese female and male Persian Chinchilla cat. supposedly this was an accidental breeding due to his "housekeeper" leaving the doors to each cat's room. What an amazing coincidence! BOTH doors left open AND the female happened to be in heat at that time and no one caught them dancing The Cha-cha. Regardless, I am happy that this wonderful breed exists today and so is Lahti!
If you like Lahti, let me know and I will do more shorts of my other Burmilla and Burmese cats and current Burmilla litter!
Xoxo
