Hiking Maligne Canyon in spring. Located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, the canyon is one of the park's main attractions. Although it was spring, we went early to avoid crowds. Starting at the main parking lot, one descends from First Bridge to Fifth (or Sixth, depending how far you want to go). Straight off the bat, we went to the lookout point off trail 7H, and then descended the canyon after. The upper part was still mainly frozen, and things began to thaw as we descended. Parts of the trail, in the shade, were icy and some, warmer parts, were muddy. Before hitting Fifth Bridge, we turned back into the forest and ascended a slope to hike on a ridge above the canyon, which took us back to the lookout point, from where we descended to hit Second and First bridges, then back to the parking lot. About 4 km total.
