Step into the chilling world of Daymare: 1998, where the haunting journey begins on August 20, 1998, at the enigmatic Aegis Laboratory. This secretive government facility, nestled on North Blue Two island within the eerie Northfall Island archipelago near Washington's coast, holds the key to your nightmares. As you delve deeper into the unknown, the story unfolds through the eyes of three extraordinary individuals.
Feel the adrenaline surge as you embody Liev, the elite soldier from the special unit H.A.D.E.S., known for their extraction and search expertise. Take flight as Cpt. David "Raven" Hale, a skilled helicopter pilot, or immerse yourself in the shoes of Samuel Walker, the vigilant forest ranger patrolling the Vermilion Forest encircling the Redcrest Mountains of Keen Sight.
A catastrophic emergency is underway following the deadly leak of an experimental BC weapon. In response, the Department of Defense dispatches two H.A.D.E.S. teams from Hexacore Biogenetics' Keen Sight HQ to uncover the truth, retrieve classified research and samples, and erase any trace of the incident before the automated security system purges the entire facility.
Daymare: 1998 was born from the ashes of Resident Evil 2 Reborn, a fan-made remake that caught the attention of Capcom. In 2015, the team received a call from the renowned game developer, inviting them to their Osaka HQ. While their remake was halted, a seed of creativity was planted. With the support and guidance of Capcom, the team forged an original IP, giving birth to Daymare: 1998.
Guided by the hand of the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis director turned Associate Producer, and fueled by the talent of Resident Evil artist Satoshi Nakai, this spine-chilling adventure was officially announced on September 12, 2016. To fund their vision, the team turned to Kickstarter and unveiled the heart-stopping Daymare Challenge PC demo on February 15, 2017. It showcased the terrifying Melting Man creature, a glimpse of what awaited players in the final game. The campaign may not have secured full funding, but it thrust Daymare: 1998 into the spotlight, captivating the hearts of horror enthusiasts everywhere.
After 2 years and 4 months of dedicated production, the game finally saw the light of day. On September 17, 2019, it crept onto Steam and GOG.com, followed by a chilling debut in Japan on February 20, 2020, gracing PlayStation 4 and PC. The rest of the world shuddered in fear on April 28, 2020, as it arrived on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
In Japan, the game was published by DMM games, while Destructive Creations took charge of the rest of the world on consoles, with All in! Games unleashing the terror through Steam.
