Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look and installing the curt class 3 trailer hitch on a 2022 Kia Sorento. So, this is what it looks like with the hitch installed. It's nice and clean looking with a nice OEM look and really just the only portion you see is gonna be the receiver tube and the safety chain loops. And that's because it's a hidden cross tube meaning that the actual structural supports are gonna be behind the bumper. So, really good look and you still get all the benefits of your hitch.
And the hitch is gonna be a steel construction and it's got a nice black powder coat finish, so that's gonna keep it looking good for a long time. And the 2-inch by 2-inch receiver tube opening is gonna be great for a lot of your different accessories, whether it be cargo carriers or ball mount or bike racks, they should be able to be accepted into that 2-inch opening. Now, you do have a 5/8 hitch pin hole and that's gonna be for your pin and clip here to keep your accessories in place. Now, the hitch does not come with the pin and clip a lot of your accessories when you purchase them, will actually come with them so that's going be required here to actually keep your accessories in the receiver. Now, if you wanna pick up a locking version, we actually have some of those here at etrailer and that way your accessories stay locked on here and not walking away in the hands of someone else.
And our safety chain loop is a plate style, it's nice and open for larger clevis style hooks, those go on there nice and easy as well as your standard style. So, when you're towing that trailer it's gonna be easy to hook those up. Now, going along with towing, you're gonna want to make sure that you check the weight ratings before hooking up. So, the gross trailer weight rating on this hitch is gonna be 4000 pounds and that's gonna be the weight of the trailer plus the accessories loaded up on that. It also has a tongue weight rating of 600 pounds and that's gonna be the weight pushing down on the inside of the receiver tube opening.
So now, think of your suspended things whether it be your bike racks or your cargo carriers kind of weighing down on here. Now, it is important you're gonna want to check the owner's manual to see what the vehicle's capable of and take that number compare it to your hitch and take the lower of the two to yourself safe. Few important measurements that we'll take here, is from the center of the hitch pin hole to the furthest point of the rear fascia. We're looking about right at 4 inches and now that's gonna be important for your folding accessories that way they aren't making contact with your rear fascia. Another important measurement that we're gonna do, is our ground clearance from the bottom of the receiver tube opening to the ground, we're looking at 11 inches and that's a decent amount of ground clearance to where your hitch should never really hit the ground.
But when you have your accessories loaded up they're gonna stick out. So, when you go up inclines they can actually make contact with the ground if you're not paying attention there. So, something to keep in mind when you are putting your accessories on. Having a trailer hitch is an awesome addition to your vehicle, to be able to put your accessories on. But a lot of times the actual install scares people off, I'm here to tell you, this is a pretty simple one, you should be able to do this in your garage or on your driveway and probably about 30 minutes or less. Speaking of, I'm gonna walk you through that right now. We're gonna begin our installation by lowering the spare tire, so to get to this spare tire, if you've never actually lowered yours down before, you're gonna just open up your hatch. You have your spare tire tools right here in this nice little foam container, go ahead just lift the whole thing out and you're gonna see this circular plug here that just says spare tire. We're gonna go ahead and open that up just using a Flathead screwdriver and that's gonna gain us access to the bolt that will be rotating to lower our tire down. And we're gonna go ahead and use actually the lug nut tool that's in our kit. So, we're gonna use our lug nut tool to lower it down just by turn this counterclockwise. And you should see your tire lowering down. Once that reaches the ground, I turned a little bit extra just to gain us a little more wiggle room on our cable and then we can actually move our spare tire out of the way. Now, on our driver's side, there's gonna be this plastic panel and we're gonna need to pull this down because our mounting hole are gonna be right here, so we're gonna
