LIVE High Definition (HD) broadcast of the Greek Orthodox Matins (Morning Prayers)/Orthros and Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom commemorating the Synaxis of the Twelve Holy Apostles.
The Greek Orthodox Church celebrates the Synaxis of the Twelve Holy Apostles to honor all the apostles together. While each apostle has their own feast day, this feast specifically recognizes their collective role. The apostles spread Christianity after Jesus's Ascension, founding the Church. There is symbolic completeness as the number 12 holds significance, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. This highlights the universality of the Apostles' mission to spread Christianity to all people.
The names of the Twelve Apostles are:
* Simon, who was called Peter,
* Andrew, Simon's brother, the First-called,
* James, the son of Zebedee,
* John, who was also the Evangelist and Theologian, and brother of James,
* Philip,
* Bartholomew,
* Thomas,
* Matthew the publican, who was also called Levi and was an Evangelist,
* James, the son of Alphaeus,
* Jude, also called Lebbaeus, and surnamed Thaddaeus, the brother of James, the Brother of God,
* Simon the Canaanite ("the Zealot"), and
* Matthias, who was elected to fill the place of Judas the traitor
