This World AIDS Day, UNAIDS is urging the globe to address the disparities which are keeping down the progress in ending AIDS. As per NACO, 17,08,777 people contracted HIV by unprotected sex between 2011-2021. The number may look less, but it is alarming. While the world focused on Covid, HIV received less attention. In 2021, as per United Nations, 38.4 million people were living with HIV. Over 6,50,000 died from AIDS-related illnesses. 1.5 million became newly infected globally. It took us over 2 years to fight the Covid. We have been unsuccessful in erasing the hate, stigma related to HIV/AIDS that has existed for much longer.
