My name is Shane McKenna, I'm 32 years old and my line of expertise is in plastics & polymer science. I can remember my days after elementary school days being stuck in an office waiting for my parents to leave. I make for the 3rd generation in a family owned plastics business that was created in 1972, Baron Colour Concentrates, Cara Colour Concentrates in 1987 and Optima Colour Inc., in 2004. As a teenager I worked in the laboratory as quality control personnel. My most recent works are with Optima Colour, extruder operations, special projects & research. Later growing a relationship with the University of Guelph & the Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre(BDDC), creating a commercially sold agricultural bio composite resin(ABC) with a best known product "the bio-bin" purchasable at Home Hardware stores. I have more recently shifted my focus to polymer recycling. I have always felt strongly about recycling but never saw such an obvious demand for a solution. A Creative Polymer Solution, which is the name of my most recent venture. In heavy affiliation with Agricultural Technologies Inc., Our goals include being Canada's largest recycler of agricultural plastics & waste products, creating a variety of consumer available products created from recycled polymer, 5 commercial grade polymer resins and a fiber reinforcing plastic additive.
I have several hobbies including traveling, golf, and anything to do with water, primarily going fast on a speed boat. I'm recently back on Canadian soil after spending 11 days in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Tokyo, attending ChinaPlas 2013(trade show). I truly enjoy the culture shock. I have traveled to many countries and my next destination could possibly include Brussels, Belgium & Dusseldorf, Germany.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
