Bio by She Rox All Female Bands: The Bangles, began in the early 1980's by the Peterson sisters who met Susanna Hoffs through a local newspaper ad, the trio who shared a love for the music on the 1960's soon added bassist Annette Zalinkas and began playing the Los Angeles club circuit and soon became a solid local act in the Paisley Underground, an early genre of alternative rock, based primarily in Los Angeles, California of garage rock 60's influenced bands, who where emerging quickly, however any all female bands were still sparse other then the Pandoras. The Bangs, as they were known originally, were forced to change the name due to another band already called the Bangs, released several singles before gaining the attention of I.R.S Records, and released their self titled Ep in 1982, bassist Annette would leave the band, and original Runaways bassist and lead vocalist Michael "Mickie" Steele was brought in as her replacement. The Bangles soon signed to Columbia Records fearing that staying with I.R.S, home to the Go-Go's would only over shadow them as a band. Guitarist Vicki Peterson said once they were not going to be the "poor man's Go-Go's", the Bangles however would spend much of their career dodging constant comparisons by many to the Go-Go's regardless of this change. The Bangles did hold their own but were still in fact, the second all female playing band to reach worldwide fame and mainstream success. By 1984's "All Over The Place" their first full length album would be to some the end to the true sound of the Bangles, who by 1985's "Different Light" which hit number 2 on the albums chart, thanks to it's pop glossed over tracks and boosted by the #2 hit, Manic Monday, and the #1 hit "Walk Like an Egyptian", the album Different Light, opened the band up to a huge audience but overshadowed as a difficult album with numerous conflicts with the albums producer, mainly of which excluded drummer Debbi Peterson from playing or even singing on the bands first number 1 hit. The Bangles at this point were the first all female playing band to land a #1 Billboard "singles" hit, the Go-Go's,We Got the Beat, only reaching #2 five years before. The Go-Go's however were the first all female band to land a #1 album slot in 1981. The Bangles however are and still the only all female playing band to reach the Top 20 in hits more then any other female band, landing another #1 hit with Eternal Flame in 1988 from their fourth album ""Everything" which also contained the #5 single "In Your Room", and a remake of Hazy Shade of Winter that landed a #2 spot for the soundtrack Less Then Zero. At the height of their success conflicts within the band began to surface more as Columbia was releasing singles mainly sang by Susanna Hoffs who soon became the band's lead singer, which in fact all the members sang lead vocals. By 1991 the Bangles disbanded and Hoffs embarked on a solo career, Vicki Peterson would write and work on several of ex Go-Go's vocalist Belinda Carlisle's albums and even was a fill in for Go-Go's guitarist Charlotte Caffey for a Go-Go's reunited tour in 1995, which only three years later would see the Bangles reunite to write and record a track for the Austin Powers, The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack who's producer Jay Roach was Susanna Hoffs husband, the track "Get The Girl" marked a cornerstone for the band who soon regrouped and released their first full length album in 15 years, titled Doll Revolution in 2003, the critically acclaimed album although it failed to see any chart success as previous albums, was said to be true to the band themselves not really seen since 1984's "All Over The Place". Bassist Michael Steel would soon retire and the Bangles continued on with bassist Abby Travis, also current bassist for the Go-Go's, they would release Sweethearts of the Sun in 2011, which shows the Bangles back to their true garage rock roots, the Bangles nowadays admit that it's about having fun, staying true to themselves and making real music. like us facebook [ Ссылка ]-...
