The C 47 is the military version of the Douglas DC 3 airliner. They made a few changes to the airliners like adding an astrodome in the cabin, strengthening the floor, adding a cargo door, and a shorter tail so they could tow a glider. Many C-47s were used in WWII for para drops and after the war they were used in the Berlin Airlift until they were replaced by the C 54 Skymaster. C 47s and DC 3 are still in use today
I took the 1/48 scale C-47A model kit from Trumpeter, that is an aircraft from operation overlord, and changed it into an aircraft from the Berlin Airlift. All it really took was to not include the troops seats in the back and ordering some new decals, plus some changes in the painting to match what i think the faded paint on the real bird at the airlift monument in Frankfurt would have looked like back then. I dont really know how close I got with the painting, it looks pretty crazy on the wings actually, but didn't have much to go on, just what I could see there at the airport and on a satellite image (because I couldn't see on top of the wings).
