Clients may not believe it when they're told directly. Also, when you just tell clients what they're thinking may be a little off, it can seem really invalidating. So using Socratic questioning can be a validating experience for them. In validating their experience, clients also understand that you get what they're saying. And in doing that, it's going to help the therapeutic relationship.
