The Groove Life band. Worth getting for $50 bucks? Only if there’s a band that you really need. And by really need, I mean if you really want a watch strap with either your favourite team logo on it OR you want one with a funky pattern on it.
I personally like my basic Apple Watch Sport Band over this Groove Life band for one reason which is:
Comfort.

At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. Which means spending our money on products you guys recommend that we try.
The Groove Life band is an elastomer band. Specifically a medical grade elastomer blend. Now elastomer sounds fancy but it isn’t anything special. Silicone is type of elastomer. Apple’s own flouroelastomer bands are a type of elastomer. Basically anything that is elastic is probably considered an elastomer.
If you do get this band, be warned that the straps start off quite stiff and do loosen up over time. After my time with this band, it now has the same pliability as a hard candy Jolly rancher that’s now just thin enough to bend with your tongue.
That doesn’t very pliable does it? Because its not.
The lugs are made from stainless steel while the clasp button is made from aluminum. As you can tell in this video, this product generally mimics the general design of the Apple Sport Loop.
The fit of the lugs are quite average. They will poke out a bit when put your wrist in a bit of flexion. Part of the problem comes from the lug latch that doesn’t come out uniformly.
The strap itself has Groove Life’s patented grooves to help with air flow while you sweat. Now looking down on the inside of the strap, it looks the strap is completely level but each eye is at a different height so that’s going to potentially help with the air flow.
Now are these Grooves groovy? They sound like a great idea BUT I don’t think it’s better than the Sport Loop. More on that in a minute.
The clasp isn’t as rounded as the Apple Watch’s clasp button and after three weeks of usage, the backside of my strap is starting to show a bit of wear and tear. In fact, its gotten worse over the last few days as that eyelet is starting to get quite mangled. The more mangled it has become, the more annoying the aluminum clasp button has gotten.
Overall the fit of the band was subpar and reminded me more of a leather watch strap than an Apple Sport Loop. It’s not as comfortable.
The primary reason is that the straps coming off the lugs come down at a steeper angle than the Sport Loop. The Sport Loop straps come off the watch at a shallower angle so it doesn’t feel like the watch is being pressed into your wrist as much.
It’s a noticeable difference between the two.
Now this difference didn’t bother me when I was working at my computer on my iPad Brydge Pro + laptop hybrid (that review’s coming soon!). BUT when you’re getting your sweat on the Apple Sport Loop is going to feel better after a sweat sesh.
Sure the Groove Life band has a series of cutting-edge, patented Grooves but the the Sport Loop has a giant chasm right down the middle.
Remember the angle of the watch straps? That comes into play when it comes to working out because the Apple Sport loop doesn’t sit on your skin as much.
