Achieving New Heights in Architectural Excellence
Can taller buildings set new standards in beauty and sustainability?
A presentation by architect Rick Cook of Cook + Fox Architects, New York, NY.
A free public event held by the City of Vancouver at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on April 19, 2011, as part of the Higher Building Review process, which requires an enhanced review of building designs in cases whereby additional building height above policy limits is sought.
The event also included a presentation by Jack Diamond of Diamond and Schmitt Architects, Toronto and a special session of the City of Vancouver's Urban Design Panel.
Rick Cook is a founding partner at Cook+Fox Architects. Most recently, Cook + Fox has been recognized as designers for the Bank of America Tower, which is the first LEED Platinum commercial high-rise building in the world. In 2006, Rick and Bob joined with Bill Browning and Chris Garvin to form Terrapin Bright Green, an environmental consulting firm committed to crafting high-performance environmental strategies for large-scale developments, corporations, and governments.
Rick's work has been showcased at the National Building Museum, in the New Yorker, and in feature programs on PBS, the Discovery Channel, and National Geographic. He speaks frequently on sustainable design and urbanism, including presentations at the UN and for the the Economist.
