Rocoto P360 a pubescen variety from parts unknown, the other year, Charlotte was in Denmark and tried one of these, sent the seeds back and weve grown it for the last few years, the pods are big so couldn’t wait to try them, the plant has been going all winter and still podding up so thought would try them
The plants grow like normal rocoto’s and get big, need staking as the pods get quite heavy, the pods start off a dark green colour and get to around tennis ball size, sometimes bigger and ripen to yellow, they can get a reddish tinge, a great producer so would be excellent for a sauce.
What’s it Like?
How Hot is It?
Thick walled and very fleshy, juicy, its sweet and the flavour is pretty nutral, theres no capsicum flavour or bean like as get with other rocoto’s, just really sweet and juicy, love them.
The heat hits pretty quick and it’s a deep burn, around mid heat that fills the mouth and throat, once hit the placenta the heat picks up to upper mid, nearly habanero heat, my gums hurt and were about to throb so it does has some oomph but love the heat as it’s a different kind of burn due to them containing more dihydrocapsaicin than the sharp sting of capsaicin. I love the burn they give
All round great plant, grows pretty easily, great producer, loves cooler climates and the pods would go really well in a sauce or jam, my favourite rocoto
