This is the voicebox of a 52 year old smoker. He has a left-sided (right on your screen) cancer. This video is taken by a flexible fibreoptic scope which is passed into the nose and through the throat. The cancer is extensive and is stage IV. This is known as a transglottic cancer. The patient underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is now free of disease one year on. He can eat and can talk although his voice is hoarse. He has given up smoking!
