Australian singer-songwriter Calan Mai has unveiled ‘Mountain Mountain’ – the first single from his upcoming sophomore EP ‘This Isn’t How You Get Home’. Recorded over three months at his home in Manchester, UK, ‘Mountain Mountain’ is a lush, folk-tronic ballad that sees Calan Mai combining elements of storytelling with refined pop production. The song was produced and mixed by Adam Lyons (FAIRCHILD, Lyon Apprentice) and features vocals by Singaporean artist Linying.
In early 2015, Calan Mai AKA Jordan Lawrence moved from Gold Coast, Australia to Manchester to concentrate efforts on music without the distractions of home.
Speaking on the track, Lawrence explains, “There’s this Bill Bryson book that mentions the Appalachian Mountains took 100 million years to form. When I wrote Mountain Mountain two years ago, it was meant to be about the inevitable change caused by that sort of time and pressure – the fact that even rocks aren’t safe. It took moving to another country, losing all my money and being forced to accept my old life was over before I understood the heart of what I’d written. In the studio I unraveled, tore down and rebuilt Mountain Mountain because I wanted the song to change the way I had.”
Calan Mai’s tracks have enjoyed plays on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6, Triple J, Amazing Radio, as well as multiple US college radio stations. His debut single ‘We’ve Got Love’ debuted at #10 on the KKBB Singles Chart in the US and has clocked over 110,000 plays on Soundcloud. Since arriving in Manchester, he's supported Augustana, Frances, Luke Sital-Singh, Louis Berry, Will Johnson (Monsters of Folk), GEORGIE & showcased at CMJ Music Marathon in New York City.
