Edmund Burke was a Tory statesman and philosopher who propounded organicism, empiricism and a skeptical view of human nature. All this was informed by the bloody turn of events in the French Revolution which started with euphoria but ended in chaos and (eventually) Boney's military dictatorship. He wanted society to be in little platoons so everyone had a place and all was stable.
His explanation of why revolutionary change was to be rejected and the danger of ideologues has remained a feature of Conservatism to this day.
