We would like to present you some amazing high-speed footage of an experiment conducted by Michael Szymczak and Marcin Sadowski at the University of Warsaw. Magnetic levitation with the use of superconductors is common enough, so to spice things up we've decided to spray the suspended magnet with ferrofluid and observe what will happen.
The main difficulty was to remove the superconductor from liquid nitrogen, suspend the magnet and hit it with ferrofluid before the superconductor heated up and lost its properties. Even with special LED lamps we had to execute the action in about 6-7 seconds.
We've recorded the footage at 1000 frames per second using the Phantom HD Gold.
The movie was created in cooperation with TPSFilmStudio.
