Clinical Interests: Knee and shoulder injuries, arthroscopy, shoulder replacement surgery and sports medicine.
Dr. Carpenter teaches and practices Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at MedSport. He is a third-generation graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. After medical school, he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and a research fellowship in biomechanics at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has developed a special expertise in shoulder injuries and his research in this area has been recognized with the Hughston Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and with the Neer Award from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. In addition, he was selected to be a Traveling Fellow by both the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. These fellowships have taken him to specialty centers in the USA and Europe to explore new techniques in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. Dr. Carpenter is the U of M Orthopaedic Team Physician, caring for the Football and Ice Hockey Teams among others. He is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon.
