Thomas Wedel started his DJing career in 1988 playing at small clubs and partys around his hometown of Darmstadt, Germany. Still in school, Tom and his friend Thorsten Adler started experimenting in electronic dance music and landed instant clubhits with their several projects. The breakthrough came in 1992 with "Arpeggiators" when they got signed by Harthouse, the young label of Sven Väth. Since then, they produced produced one record after the other under project names like for example Microbots (Overdrive) and Psycho Drums (R&S).
Tom worked at a number of labels as A&R and consequently followed his path becoming one of the most popular rave and club DJs. Together with Andy Düx he was resident DJ at Dorian Gray, Frankfurt Airport and was responsible for the Friday session between 1993 and 1995.
Working as the "Microbots", Tom and Thorsten have made many excursions into a deeper genre, but just as well suited for the dancefloor. In 1994 Tom Wax and Thorsten Adler brought their very personal project into life named 'AWeX' (Adler-Wax-eXperiments). In the beginning they made it for fun and to have an experimental field without any musical limits. But after their first 12inch 'It´s Our future' became THE anthem of 1995 and the Berlin Love Parade, they had their biggest success up to date . The follow-up 'Back On Plastic' climbed up to rank 32 of the official German charts so that an album was the logical consequence.
In 1995 he changed his well known artist name "DJ Tom" into "Tom Wax" to avoid confusions due to the fact that along with the big techno hype in Germany a lot of other DJ´s called themselves DJ Tom (Tom = short name of Thomas).
