Loved this magic mushroom town (San Jose del Pacifico). After visiting Oaxaca City, it was time to go back on the road towards the ocean. But we had to make a special stop on the way.
A friend of a friend told us about this place being famous for magic mushrooms. We didn’t know if we were going to have some or not, but it didn’t matter as I was especially attracted by the simple idea of going to a village with spiritual traditions and then we’d see where the experience takes us naturally.
It turned out sleeping a single night was not enough to do a full experience. Indeed, it is recommended to take mushrooms during the day, ideally after doing a Temazcal first to be fully relaxed, which we could not do because we arrived in the middle of the afternoon. The next day was not good either as we had to drive a long way to the ocean where we wanted to celebrate New Year’s Eve. If I could go back, I would have come one day earlier (spending one day less in Oaxaca City), but, again, it didn’t matter because I am glad we met interesting people, learned amazing things, and left the village with a great sentiment of elevation. Also, we can always go back and take our time there. One thing is certain, San José del Pacifico became my favourite part of our Oaxaca road trip.
I learned after our visit there about cultural historic elements such as María Sabina, who is depicted in multiple places in the town. I also learned that San José del Pacifico isn’t actually the Mexican capital of magic mushrooms, there is another one (as Yoda would say). I kind of already know that I will go back there and try to dive deeper into the content I produce out of it. This was a pre-research episode.
This video series is intended to be more of a cultural and entertaining experience than a travel guide, but if you have questions or want some tips, just ask them in the comment section and I’ll be glad to respond :)

I film with my phone, as well as my Fujifilm DSLR camera which I love. If you like the look it creates, you can buy the kit with the same 18-55 lens kit I use through this link (I will get a small commission that helps me to keep on going with this channel): [ Ссылка ]
If it's out of stock you can get the former model which is cheaper and just as good: [ Ссылка ]
